DAY 1: MARRAKECH – ATLAS MOUNTAINS – KASBAH AIT BEN HADDOU – OUARZAZATE – BOUMALNE DADES VALLEY
Driving time: about 6 hours
Your desert adventure begins early in the morning when our driver picks you up from your hotel or riad in Marrakech at around 7:15 AM. We start our journey by crossing the spectacular High Atlas Mountains, driving through the famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass which offers incredible panoramic views.
Along the way we will stop for photos and short breaks so you can enjoy the beautiful landscapes of mountains, valleys, and traditional Berber villages.

High Atlas Mountains
The High Atlas Mountains are the largest mountain range in Morocco and stretch across the country from west to east. This region offers some of the most breathtaking landscapes in North Africa with dramatic mountain peaks, deep valleys, and small Berber villages. The famous Tizi n’Tichka Pass reaches more than 2,200 meters above sea level and provides amazing panoramic views. Travelers often stop here to take photos and enjoy the fresh mountain air. The region is home to Berber communities who have lived in these mountains for centuries. Their traditional houses are built from clay and stone and blend naturally with the surrounding landscape. Agriculture and livestock remain important parts of daily life in this region.
After crossing the Atlas Mountains we arrive at one of Morocco’s most famous historic sites.
Kasbah Ait Ben Haddou
Ait Ben Haddou is one of the most famous kasbahs in Morocco and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. This fortified village was once an important stop along the ancient caravan route between the Sahara Desert and Marrakech. The buildings are constructed from traditional clay and straw which gives the village its beautiful red color. Walking through the narrow streets feels like traveling back in time. Many international movies were filmed here including Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, and Game of Thrones. Visitors can climb to the top of the kasbah for a spectacular view of the surrounding desert landscape. Local artisans sell traditional handicrafts and souvenirs around the village. A guided visit allows travelers to learn about the history and architecture of this fascinating place.
Lunch will be taken near the kasbah after the guided visit.
After lunch we continue toward Ouarzazate, often called the gateway to the Sahara Desert.
Ouarzazate – Hollywood of Morocco
Ouarzazate is a famous Moroccan city known for its movie studios and desert landscapes. The city is often called the Hollywood of Morocco because many international films were produced here. Atlas Studios in Ouarzazate is one of the largest film studios in the world. Famous movies such as The Mummy, Gladiator, and Kingdom of Heaven were filmed in this region. The landscapes around the city look cinematic with wide desert plains, kasbahs, and palm groves. The historic Kasbah Taourirt is also one of the main attractions in the city. Ouarzazate is an important stop for travelers heading toward the Sahara Desert. The sunny climate and dramatic scenery make it a popular destination for filmmakers and visitors alike.
In the afternoon we continue through the Valley of Roses before arriving at Dades Valley, where we spend the night.
Dades Valley
Dades Valley is one of the most beautiful valleys in southern Morocco. The valley is famous for its dramatic landscapes and unusual rock formations known as the “Monkey Fingers”. The Dades River flows through the valley creating fertile land filled with gardens and palm trees. Traditional Berber villages are scattered along the valley and many ancient kasbahs can still be seen along the road. The region is also famous for its rose cultivation and produces rose water and perfumes. During spring the valley becomes full of blooming roses which create a wonderful fragrance. The winding mountain roads provide amazing views and are very popular with photographers. Travelers can relax here and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the mountains.
Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel in Dades Valley.
DAY 2: DADES VALLEY – TINGHIR – TODRA GORGES – MERZOUGA DESERT
Driving time: about 4 hours
After breakfast we continue our journey toward the famous Todra Gorges, passing through beautiful palm groves and Berber villages.

Todra Gorges
Todra Gorges is one of the most impressive natural attractions in Morocco. The canyon was formed by the Todra River which carved deep cliffs through the mountains over thousands of years. The rock walls reach heights of nearly 300 meters and create a spectacular narrow canyon. It is a popular place for hiking, photography, and rock climbing. The cool river that flows through the gorge brings life to the surrounding palm groves. Local Berber communities live nearby and maintain traditional lifestyles. Walking through the gorge allows visitors to admire the incredible size of the cliffs. Many travelers stop here for lunch and a short walk along the river.
After lunch we continue our journey toward the Sahara Desert.
Merzouga and Erg Chebbi Dunes
Merzouga is a small desert village located on the edge of the Sahara Desert. It is famous for the huge sand dunes of Erg Chebbi which can reach heights of more than 150 meters. These golden dunes create one of the most beautiful desert landscapes in Morocco. Camel trekking is the traditional way to explore the dunes and experience the silence of the desert. Watching the sunset from the top of the dunes is an unforgettable moment for many travelers. At night the desert sky becomes incredibly clear and filled with thousands of stars. Visitors spend the night in a Berber desert camp where they enjoy traditional music and Moroccan dinner. Sitting around the campfire under the stars is one of the highlights of the entire tour.
